About

About Reformed Deacon and the project.

The Reformed churches have always held the office of deacon as essential to the life of the church. Following the pattern of Acts 6, our churches have sought “men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom” to serve the physical needs of the church so that elders can devote themselves to “prayer and the ministry of the word.”

Despite the priority placed on this office, relatively little has been written specifically on the office of deacon. As a deacon myself, I routinely wish to hear more from the wisdom of the ages on how to serve effectively in this calling.

So I started compiling a bibliography of readings in the Reformed diaconate. In hopes that it will be beneficial to others — and that others will suggest more resources for me to read — I share it here.

The site has been maintained since October 2015. It now collects more than fifty readings, alongside occasional blog posts on the theology and practice of the office.

This is a personal project of Tim Hopper. It is not affiliated with any church or denomination.
