A Diaconal Vision

The Central Florida Presbytery Deacons Committee of the PCA produced this proposal to establish and fund a full-time Administrative Deacon, the operational officer of the committee, who would equip, connect, and mobilize diaconal service across the presbytery’s churches. It grounds the vision in Acts 6 and in the claim that a church which worships the Lord who became a servant will itself grow servant-hearted.

Its argument from need is pointed: churches support full-time pastors, worship leaders, and campus ministers because most disciplines require some full-time practitioners to thrive, yet they rarely fund a deacon to give focused attention to the sick, the poor, the widow, and the stranger.

Alongside the vision the document lays out a historical rationale, a financial plan, a job description, and the committee’s charge. It is a rare contemporary case for connectional, vocational diaconal ministry at the presbytery level.
